UNFPA and Belstat presented budget of time of Belarusian population

On the 17th of December 2015 representatives of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) in Belarus and National Statistical Committee of Belarus hosted a round table to bring forward the results of the sampling observation of Belarusian households ‘Use of the daily time fund by the population of the Republic of Belarus’.

Sampling observation of Belarusian households was conducted in the framework of international technical assistance project ‘Capacity-building of the national statistics system in the production, analysis and dissemination of gender-relevant information about the population’ with the support of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF).

Representatives of the UNFPA and Belstat presented methodology of the sampling observation and shared information about the distribution of daily time fund by Belarusian people in different spheres of life, household, leisure and work related activities.

The results of the sampling observation compliment the complex of gender statistics indices and allow monitor the progress in provision of equal opportunities for men and women in different spheres of life.

90 % of women and 44% of men cook, 83 % of women and 31 % of men wash the dishes, 82 % of women and 44 % of men clean up their apartments. Men are more likely to work in construction and repairs (9 % of men and 2 % of women), as well as maintenance and repairs of vehicles (18 % of men and 1 % of women).

Data deduced from the sampling observation of households will be used in the analysis of conditions and quality of life of Belarusian people, during preparation, realization and monitoring of the state social policy on labour, culture, family and youth.

Round table gathered experts from UNFPA, UNICEF, National Statistical Committee, chief statistical oblast and Minsk city agencies, Scientific Research Institute of the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection of the Republic of Belarus, Scientific Research Institute of the Ministry of Economy of the Republic of Belarus, State Scientific Institution ‘Economic and Scientific Research Institute of the Ministry of Economy of the Republic of Belarus’, Ministry of Economy of the Republic of Belarus, Republican Institute for Vocational Education of the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection of the Republic of Belarus, Ministry of Interior of the Republic of Belarus, Ministry of Health of the Republic of Belarus, State Institution Republican Center for Hygiene, Epidemiology and Public Health and Public association “Belarusian Women's Union”.
