The workshop was held in Minsk on 5-6 June 2013. The event was attended by the journalists from Minsk, oblast and district centres, university teachers, representatives of press services of ministries, agencies and non-governmental organizations. Alina Radu from the Republic of Moldova, Editor-in-Chief and founder of Ziarul de Garda newspaper, international awards holder in journalism, and Irina Sidorskaya, Head of Communication Technology Department of the Institute of Journalism of the Belarusian State University acted as trainers.

The international expert commented on the relevancy of the workshop:

- Journalists often underestimate the importance of gender related issues. While it is actually an urgent topic, essential for every one of us, men and women alike, as citizens of every country are women and men. Mass media can greatly contribute to solving the problem of gender inequality. The first step in this direction is the correct representation of men’s and women’s images in media.

Each participant of the workshop received guidelines on gender ethical journalism and good policy for media companies elaborated by the World Association for Christian Communication and the International Federation of Journalists and translated into the Russian language by UNFPA.

Alina Radu’s and Irina Sidorskaya’s presentations on gender ethical journalism are available in Russian for download here.
